Three hacker teams unlock the PSP

Computer hackers have scored a victory in their battle against Sony and the way the company controls its PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld games console.

Sony sells its PSP with built-in software, known as firmware, which controls how the console operates.

The firmware locks many of the PSP's capabilities, preventing enthusiasts from writing their own programs, known as homebrew, and running them on the machine.

It also disables its ability to play some films which are not bought on special Sony PSP disks.

But last month three hacker teams - Noobz, Team C+D, and a group led by PSP hacker Dark Alex - co-ordinating their efforts over the internet, found a flaw in the most recently released version of the firmware - version 3.03.

Unlocking PSPs

Using this flaw they devised a way to unlock all PSPs, regardless of their age or the firmware running on it.

This development has been a cause for celebration in the PSP homebrew community, but caused alarm at Sony because unlocked PSPs can be used to play pirated PSP games.

"The problem experienced here is not with homebrew applications, but with hackers who pirate commercial titles," a Sony spokesperson said.

"Piracy is illegal and we strongly oppose any acts which either aide or profit from it."

But the hackers say piracy is not what motivates their teams to unlock the PSP.

My aim is to enable as many people as possible to run homebrew programs," said Fanjita, a member of the Noobz team.

He added: "Everyone has the right to do what they want with their own hardware. Piracy does upset me, and because what we are doing opens the way to piracy it's harder to justify it morally.

"But our stance on piracy is clear, and we hope to be role models. Sony have never been in touch with me, so I am confident that what we are doing is legal."

Watched "Ghost Rider" in JB

Just came back from JB (Johor Baru) and this is not the first time I go to Malaysia but this time round, the immigration processing is very fast, because of my student pass? I'm sure :)

Do you know that:
1. It only takes few minutes to go to Malaysia from S'pore?
2. The movie ticket's price in Malaysia is half of S'pore? :D
3. Malaysia is as dirty as Indonesia? sigh

Reached City Square, quickly go to cinema to book Ghost Rider ticket, luckily got empty seats in the middle, but the seating structure in this cinema is really bad, even though I sat in the middle, I still felt that it was too close to the screen eh?

Let's stick back to the topic... this movie was based on the Marvel character, stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze gives up his soul to help his father who suffering from cancer, but in the end he got tricked by the person he sold his soul. I admit it that the computer effect was very good from the details when he transformed to "skull mode" or when the devils show off, but the battle with the devils was quite plain and finished to fast... yes... I mean really fast, less than 2 minutes for every battle except the last one (Still too fast in opinion duh)

Overall this movie wasn't that bad (you know typical Marvel comic) but also not the best movie I ever seen, especially from Marvel.

Points 6/10

Attention ! I changed my WLM email account !

Today at class my teacher gave us her MSN Messenger (now called Windows Live Messenger) account, and you know what... I'm very shock 'cause she gave me a xxxx@starhub.com.sg email and I just "Huh? starhub email can login to WML" thats why I'm straightaway ask her how come she can use other than hotmail and yahoo (I knew that yahoo account can also login)

At home, I tried to search up in google and found some useful information that "ALL email can be used in WML" yes I mean ALL (including Gmail and any other private service provider, like mine) So I decided to changes my WML email account from my old one, evolution_nine@hotmail.com to me@roy-chang.com :)

And I tested that even though I'm using other than hotmail account I still can login through my NDS using Beup, happy? of course goodone

Valentine's Day

Saint Valentine's Day or Valentine's Day is on February 14. It is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other; sending Valentine's cards, candy, or donations to charities, often anonymously...
quoted from wikipedia
Happy Valentine for all of you who has a lover, family or even single.
May the grace of love be with you all the time.

Backup original DVD movie

Well, obviously this the first time in my life to backup protected original DVD movie (you know why!). First I tried using Nero, I thought that I can just easily copy DVD to DVD using the menu inside, but then pop up a window said that this DVD in copy protected (In case if you don't know, this retail program like NERO must follow the term and regulation, so thats why when this program read some code in DVD, which is tell the program that the DVD/CD is copyrighted, the program will show that error message) BUT... thats not because NERO can't copy this DVD, its because the programmer won't allowed us to copy.

But well, here I gave you 2 super power program to "legally backup" you own DVD movie. Which one is better? depends in your needs :)

DVD Decrypter
This program allowed us to backup a decrypted and copyrighted DVD to an .iso file (Mostly I used this to backup my PS2 games and transfer to PS2HDD). If the files is decrypted, after you encrypted it to an .iso, usually the file size will become more than 4.7GB, (allowed space to be used only 4.3 GB) and you unable to burn in in single layer DVD although this program have a feature to burn also but unable to shrink it. So I you just want to backup it to your computer, I suggested use this one. This program is shareware, feel free to download from my multiply
Download here (right click and save as)

DVD Shrinker
Personally I used this when I want to copy DVD to DVD, not only auto backup and burn decrypted and copyrighted DVD but also shrink the file size and BURN it :) very easy to use, but the disadvantages is, they never implant function to backup as an .iso. This program is shareware, feel free to download from my multiply
Download here (right click and save as)

Black "bloody cute" smilies :D

There's total 60 cute smilies like example above I uploaded in my Multiply account, can be viewed it here, you can use these as your messenger display picture, smiley, and and other things. It's very seldom to find some high quality smilies like these, so enjoy goodone

What the hell is smiley? read here
It'll be useless if you just load this smilies from your Windows live messenger, WLM will just resize it to small, except if you edit this smilies as a gif (must have 2 different images frames)

Personality test result !

Neuroticism
47
Extraversion
3
Openness To Experience
13
Agreeableness
60
Conscientiousness
1

Overall
You are introverted, reserved, and quiet with a preference for solitude and solitary activities. Your socializing tends to be restricted to a few close friends. Stressful and frustrating situations can be upsetting to you, but you are generally able to get over these feelings and cope with these situations. As a practical person you like to think in plain and simple terms. Others describe you as down-to-earth, practical, and conservative. You have some concern with others' needs, and are generally pleasant, sympathetic, and cooperative. You like to live for the moment and do what feels good now. Your work tends to be careless and disorganized.

Neuroticism
You feel tense, jittery, and nervous and often feel like something dangerous is about to happen. You may be afraid of specific situations or be just generally fearful. You don't usually get angry too easily but some things can annoy you. Mostly your emotions are on an even keel and you do not get depressed easily. You do not feel nervous in social situations, and have a good impression of what others think of you. You do not experience strong, irresistible cravings and consequently do not find yourself tempted to overindulge. You experience panic, confusion, and helplessness when under pressure or stress.

Extraversion
People generally perceive you as distant and reserved, and you do not usually reach out to others. You tend to feel overwhelmed by, and therefore actively avoid, large crowds. You often need privacy and time for yourself. You tend not to talk much and prefer to let others control the activities of groups. You lead a leisurely and relaxed life. You would prefer to sit back and smell the roses than indulge in high energy activities. You enjoy some excitment and risk taking in your life. You have a generally cheerful disposition.

Openness To Experience
Often you find the real world is too plain and ordinary for your liking, and you use fantasy as a way of creating a richer, more interesting world for yourself. You are reasonably interested in the arts but are not totally absorbed by them. You tend not to express your emotions openly and are sometimes not even aware of your own feelings. You prefer familiar routines and for things to stay the same. You can tend to feel uncomfortable with change. You prefer dealing with either people or things rather than ideas. You regard intellectual exercises as a waste of your time. You like the security of tradition, but sometimes have a desire to bend the rules and challenge conventional thinking.

Agreeableness
You naturally assume that most people are fair, honest, and have good intentions. You believe that a certain amount of deception in social relationships is necessary. You are guarded in new relationships and less willing to openly reveal the whole truth about yourself. You will help others if they are in need. If people ask for too much of your time you feel that they are imposing on you. You dislike confrontations and are perfectly willing to compromise or to deny your own needs in order to get along with others. You do not like to claim that you are better than other people, and generally shy from talking yourself up. You are not affected strongly by human suffering, priding yourself on making objective judgments based on reason. You are more concerned with truth and impartial justice than with mercy.

Conscientiousness
Often you do not feel effective, and may have a sense that you are not in control of your life. In general you tend to be disorganized and scattered. You find contracts, rules, and regulations overly confining and are sometimes seen as unreliable or even irresponsible by others. You are content to get by with a minimal amount of work, and might be seen by others as lazy. You find yourself procrastinating and show poor follow-through on tasks. Often you fail to complete tasks - even tasks that you want very much to complete. You often say or do the first thing that comes to mind without deliberating alternatives and the probable consequences of those alternatives.

More detail about my result, click here or otherwise click here to test your self. Read here for translated result in Indonesia language (thanks to Van)

Well.. actually I'm quite surprise with the result, 90% of this descriptions are true duh yup

Updated to 3.10 OE-A !!

I just update my PSP to 3.10 OE-A, thanks to Dark_Alex :) you're truly awesome !

3.10 OE-A changes:

  • Change from 3.03 firmware to 3.10
  • 4th level of brightness (aka battery eater) can now be selected also without ac adaptor.
  • Changes in hen core:
    - Static user elf’s can now be executed in the 3.10 kernel. (this includes snes user version between other programs)
    - Tyranid’s patch (added in 3.03 OE-C) consequences was not explained very well in the changelog of 3.03 OE-C:
    • For programmers: it allows kernel modules to have user imports, making kernel programming in 3.03/3.10 less strict.
    • For users: plugins and applications that worked in 2.71 SE, but not in OE, *may* now work in 3.03OE-C and 3.10 OE-A

3.10 Update System

  • Dynamic Normalizer has been added as a feature under Sound Settings
  • Better compatibility POPS
  • New setting menu when playing PSX games
    • Now can assign for controller 2
    • Adjust brightness
    • Adjust volume control (louder)
    • Add Zoom function in screen setting (to remove black border)
